Acculynk provides answers to your most frequently asked questions on PaySecure, from security to using PIN debit at the online merchant checkout to the benefits of PaySecure.
How does PaySecure work?
Acculynk’s PaySecure Internet PIN debit service is embedded directly into your merchant's online checkout. Unlike other payment methods, you do not have to enroll to use the service, pay for your purchase at another website or deposit funds in an online wallet. All you need is your debit card and bank-issued PIN.
PaySecure is simple to use. Just enter your debit card information at the merchant checkout as you normally would - card number, expiration date, and security code. If your debit card can be used with a PIN, the PaySecure graphical, scrambling PIN-pad will appear on your computer screen for the secure and easy entry of your PIN. Just enter your PIN using your mouse, click "Continue" and your transaction is processed.
PaySecure mimics the PIN debit entry process at the retail point of sale. If you do not wish to process your transaction as PIN debit, you can click “Cancel” at any time and your transaction is processed as “signature” debit.
What is the difference between “signature” debit and PIN debit?
When using a debit card to pay at the retail point of sale, you can choose to either sign a receipt (“signature” debit) or enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN), which does not require signing a receipt.
On the Internet, debit cards are processed as “signature” debit, even though no signature is obtained for the purchase. Without the PIN, the cardholder’s identity is not authenticated, which can lead to unauthorized use of debit cards on the Internet. Signature debit is a ‘two step’ process for authorization and settlement, meaning it will take a few days for your transaction to show up on your bank statement.
A PIN secures your debit transaction and authenticates that you are making the purchase, since only you know your PIN. Additionally, a PIN debit transaction is a 'one step' process for authorization and settlement, meaning funds from your checking account are removed quicker, making PIN debit a great budgeting tool.
Is PaySecure secure?
Each time you use PaySecure, our service encrypts your PIN in a “PIN Block” so that it never travels across payment channels as your actual, numerical PIN. Your PIN is transmitted directly to Acculynk and is never seen by your online merchant.
Additionally, PaySecure requires PIN entry by mouse; your PIN cannot be entered by typing the numbers on your keyboard. This security feature is designed to prevent keylogging of your PIN.
Can someone intercept my PIN and use it to make purchases?
Our service encrypts your PIN in a “PIN Block” so it never travels across the Internet as your actual, numerical PIN. In order to make a PIN debit purchase on the Internet, a fraudster would need to know your card information, including card number, expiration date and card verification number, as well as your PIN. You would need to give your PIN to someone, or have it physically stolen or recorded at the retail point of sale in order for a fraudster to make a PIN debit purchase using our service.
How is the transaction processed?
PaySecure transactions are processed the same way PIN debit transactions are processed at the retail point of sale. You enter your card information at the online merchant checkout, and your PIN on our graphical, scrambling PIN-pad. The bank that issued your debit card provides an authorization to the merchant that funds are available for the transaction. The merchant processes the transaction and the funds are removed from your checking account to pay for your purchase.
What do I need to use PaySecure?
A debit card and a bank-issued PIN are required to use our service. We do not require you to download any software, purchase a hardware device, sign up with us, or pay at any other website beside the merchant’s.
Are there any fees or costs?
Acculynk does not charge consumers any fees for using our service. This makes PaySecure an attractive payment method since there are no enrollment fees, and most issuers do not charge for using PIN debit. Additionally, PaySecure avoids the high fees levied with credit cards and some alternative payment services.
What are the benefits?
PIN debit is a preferred payment method because it is convenient, secure and easy to use. Your PIN provides an extra layer of authentication and security to your transaction, allowing you to use a card you already have and a PIN that only you know. PIN debit is a great budgeting tool, since transactions are deducted from your checking account in near real-time. And by using PIN debit, you can save money on high credit card APRs and fees associated with using some alternative payment services. |
